Hard Landscaping
Hard landscaping relates to the non-plant material used in landscaping and the elements that support soft landscaping components such as plants, trees and soil. It can be either natural or artificial and might include features such as decking, fencing, paving and patios.
More recently, and particularly since the pandemic, hard landscaping is being used to create multi-functional outdoor spaces that serve as additional ‘rooms’ for entertaining, relaxing or just bringing the family together.
Projects undertaken also include garden buildings such as offices, sheds and summer house; gazebos, pergolas, planters and trellising; pathways and permanent furniture.
Case Study
The brief was to create an easy to maintain outdoor entertaining area that included areas to catch the morning, midday and late afternoon sun. We worked with the client to agree a design that had the wow factor but that was functional and within budget.
The project included constructing a frame for a raised decked area, building a sleeper retainer wall stepping up to a timber laid deck seating area and low maintenance gravelled garden, including decorative paved circles for additional seating and hot tub (not in picture).
To complete the overall landscape design, we laid a block-paved patio and wrap around driveway and replaced the old rotten fence with a new timber featheredge fence.
We were later asked to install a powder coated metal balustrade to the raised deck.
